Chapter 15

Marcus had a thousand thoughts running through his mind. First thing tomorrow when they returned home, he was going to get her a new ring. This time, he was going to propose right away. He had to come up with something good he was sure she heard about Bobby’s big proposal.

He couldn’t afford to leave anything to chance. He had to go see Julia and let her know things were over indefinitely. That was going to be awkward but this time, he had a reason to just end things.

He would need to find them a house. He was never taking Rita to that apartment again after having another woman stay there. Maybe something close to mom and dad’s now that Paige and Bobby would be taking their place over. Bobby would love having someone like Rita around for Paige now that she is expecting.

Marcus looked down at Rita. He couldn’t wait for the day she was pregnant with their first baby. He reached for her hand that was tracing his chest and laced his fingers with it.

“What made you cut your hair,” Marcus asked as curiosity got the best of him.

Rita shrugged her shoulders. “I needed a change, everything seemed to be so out of control, and it was the one thing I had power over.”

“And the color, why red,” Marcus mused as he picked up a strand.

“That was your sister and Anton’s idea. I was going to go with something darker. You know brown or something,” Rita sighed. “What, you don’t like it?”

Marcus stiffened at the mention of Anton’s name. He tried not to be insanely jealous. He had just been the first to be inside her after all, so things hadn’t gone that far with her ex. It still burned him up though that another man used to hold her.

Marcus cleared his throat to regroup. Things were perfect right now he didn’t want that to change. He started to knead her shoulders.

“I think it’s sexy but you know I loved you the way you were,” Marcus replied.

“Well, I love you with longer hair.” Rita shrugged. She reached to tuck his hair behind his ear. It was just past his ears now, and he kept it combed into a regal style though it was mussed from sex now. “I guess everything has to change sometime.”

Marcus kissed her forehead as he felt the conversation taking a turn that could be dangerous. “I’ll be right back,” he murmured and slipped out of the bed.

Rita watched his taut buns move into the bathroom, and she smiled and giggled to herself. If someone would have told her yesterday that she was going to sleep with Marcus Mairettie, she probably would have slapped them really hard. Watching him now, all she could think about was doing it again. He was amazing.

Between the stories from high school friends, Anton and the models on set she wasn’t expecting any of it. She was totally freaked out by his question about her response to him. She wasn’t sure how to tell him she was saving herself for him.
